Every era left its mark, yet much remains hidden.

1913–1918

The Early Years

In 1913, the Grand Duke built the palace in neoclassical style, equipped with advanced technology. In 1918, he died under unexplained circumstances, and the palace passed to his mother, Grand Duchess Elisabeth.

1918–1935

Between Monarchy and Modernity

The Grand Duchess inhabited the palace until her death in 1933. In 1934, the building became the State Library, a place that concealed more than was known.

1936–1945

Turns of Time

During these years, the palace served as a training ground for political and physical training before being taken over by the Red Army. The exact events of this period are largely unknown.

1946–1990s

Art and Culture

From 1945, the palace became a music school and later home to the State Folklore Ensemble and the German Dance Company. Yet, these years also left their mysterious melodies.

2000–2019

Decay and New Hope

In 2000, the palace fell into disrepair. In 2019, after a long legal dispute, it was repurchased by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The Future Begins

In 2021, entrepreneur Andreas Krumme took over the palace. Originally, there were various ideas for the future of the building – but it found its way into a new era as a hotel.
